How do I order LAZY SUSAN DOORS?
Article

READ THIS ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ARTICLE!
KEEP SCROLLING UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL!

A Lazy Susan door, whether it is glued together solidly or hinged in the center, is actually made of TWO SEPARATE Doors. You will need to order TWO doors to make up an "L" shaped Lazy Susan door unit.

You can do this by simply entering the TWO doors that will make up the "L" shaped lazy susan in the SAME list that you are entering the quantities and sizes for all the other doors you are ordering. After clicking on the "STEP TWO" Blue Button that enters the items into your shopping cart, you will notice that the last Option listed for that ENTIRE group of doors that you entered is "Lazy Susan Edge?". The Default on this choice is always NO. If you click on the word "change" right next to that choice, you will be taken to a new screen Called 'Lazy Susan Doors'. It will list each line item of the doors you entered. Each of the line items is followed by a drop-down menu box that offers THREE choices: "NO...Standard Door", "Yes-....45 degree angle" and "Yes-....SQUARE EDGE DOOR".
You Should change any pair of doors that you intend to use as Lazy Susan Doors from the default of "none" to one of the LAZY SUSAN choices.

There are TWO way to do this:

  • After you've made your choices on the configuration of the doors, and put the sizes in pricing, you will notice that the right column has been keeping track of all your choices. In fact, IT HAS ADDED TWO MORE CHOICES; "Hinge Boring: None" and "Lazy Susan Doors? : No! These are Regular Doors".

Press the Blue and Yellow button (shown above) sitting over any of the choices you've made INCLUDING those TWO NEW ONES that were added. You will be taken to a page where you can change those defaults of "None" and "No!" to what you exactly what you need.
  • IF YOU MISSED THE ABOVE STEP, You will ALWAYS be able to edit these same choices right in your shopping cart by clicking on the "change" link after every choice you made, INCLUDING the ones that refer to the "Hinge Boring" and "Lazy Suaan Doors?".

  • YOU CAN USE THE "45 DEGREE" CHOICE SAFELY ON ANY DOORS FROM ANY SERIES WE SELL. (This includes the 100, 200, 300 AND 400 Series wood doors, as well as the Premium Rigid Thermo Foil (RTF) Doors).
YOU MUST MEASURE THE DOORS AND ORDER THE DOORS FROM THEIR WIDEST POINT (MEASURED FROM THE BACK OF THE DOOR), BECAUSE AFTER WE CUT THE 45 DEGREE ANGLE IN THE DOOR, THE FRONT OF THE DOOR WILL BE ABOUT 1" NARROWER THAN WHAT THE BACK OF THE DOOR IS. REMEMBER TO NEVER MEASURE YOUR DOORS FROM THE FRONT OF THE DOOR, THEN REQUEST THE EDGE TO BE BE CUT @ A 45 DEGREE ANGLE, BECAUSE THE FRONT OF THE DOOR WILL THEN BE 3/4" SMALLER THAN IT WAS BEFORE WE CUT IT!!!!!

  • USE THE "SQUARE EDGE DOOR" CHOICE ON 200 & 400 Series "Cope and Stick" style Mortise and Tenon Doors AND the 100 & 300 Series "Mitered" style doors. This style of Lazy Susan Door, where one long edge on the door is SQUARED OFF is IDEAL for connecting the doors together with the "CENTER HINGE KIT" we sell in the hinge section of this website. Essentially, one door has no boring done to it at all, and the other door has FOUR holes bored in it, TWO on the Left side and TWO on the Right side of the door.

Below is the screen you will be taken to when you click on the word "Change" after the statement "Lazy Susan Doors?: None" in your shopping cart

BELOW IS AN EXAMPLEOF A LAZY SUSAN MADE WITH THE "45 DEGREE" METHOD.
(BOTH DOORS ARE THE SAME SIZE AND HINGED FROM THE BACK WITH A PIANO HINGE)

BELOW IS AN EXAMPLE OF A LAZY SUSAN DONE WITH THE "SQUARE EDGE" method (AND USING THE CENTER-BORE "900LSK" 4-PIECE HINGE SET):

WE CALL THIS STYLE OF LAZY-SUSAN DOOR BORING "CENTER-HINGED".
IT WILL REQUIRE ONE DOOR TO HAVE 4 BORE HOLES, AND THE OTHER DOOR TO HAVE NO BORE HOLES

IF THE DOOR HAS A RECTANGULAR, OR OTHER SYMMETRICAL PATTERN ON IT, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPECIFY WHICH IS THE LEFT AND WHICH IS RIGHT, BECAUSE YOU CAN TURN THE DOORS OVER AND THEY CAN BE EITHER ONE. SO, SIMPLY MARK THE PAIR OF DOORS AS BORE 'LEFT/RIGHT PAIR'...WHEN WE SEE THAT YOU CHOSE THE 'CENTER-BORE' OPTION ON THE 'LAZY SUSAN DOORS?' CHOICE, WE WILL KNOW TO BORE THEM LIKE THE PICTURE ABOVE!

IF, HOWEVER, THE DOORS HAVE AN ARCH, OR ANOTHER NON-SYMMETRICAL PATTERN ON THE FRONT, WE WILL NEED TO KNOW WHICH DOOR YOU WILL BE CONNECTING TO THE CABINET FRAME (AND WILL BE BORED WITH THE FOUR HOLES), SO YOU MUST MARK 'LEFT' OR 'RIGHT' FOR THE BORING.

HERE'S HOW: MAKE SURE YOU ORDER THE TWO DOORS TOGETHER AS A PAIR, AND MARK THEM AS 'BORE LEFT' IF THE LEFT DOOR WILL BE THE ONE CONNECTING TO THE CABINET, OR 'BORE RIGHT' IF THE RIGHT DOOR WILL BE THE ONE CONNECTING TO THE CABINET.

The cabinet side hinges come only as 1/2" overlay. If you need MORE than 1/2" overlay, you can cut into the frame of the cabinet itself so the door mounts farther over the frame. Yo'll have to dot the math on that based on how much you cut into the frame. Here's an example:

"OVERLAY" IS THE WIDTH (in inches) A PARTICULAR HINGE WILL FORCE THE CABINET DOOR TO COVER THE CABINET FRAME (on the hinge side).

  • THE TWO 'CABINET-FRAME-TO-DOOR' HINGES IN THIS LAZY-SUSAN KIT WILL FORCE THE FIRST DOOR TO COVER 1/2" OF THE CABINET FACE FRAME (on the HINGE side).
  • AT THE 90 DEGREE TURN IN THE CORNER, YOU NEED TO LEAVE 3/4" OF 'VOID' AREA WHERE THE SECOND DOOR WILL ATTACH TO THE FIRST DOOR.
  • SO, IF YOUR CABINET OPENING ON EACH SIDE IS, SAY, 10 3/8" WIDE, YOU WOULD SUBTRACT 3/4" FOR THE VOID AREA, THEN ADD 1/2" FOR THE OVERLAY OF THE DOOR OVER THE CABINET FRAME. AS YOU CAN SEE, SUBTRACTING 3/4", THEN ADDING 1/2" FOR THE OVERLAY NETS OUT TO MAKING THE DOORS 1/4" NARROWER THAN THE OPENING ITSELF, SO THE DOORS TO ORDER, IN THIS CASE, WOULD BE 10 1/8" WIDE.
  • AS FAR AS THE HEIGHT GOES, WE USUALLY FIGURE OUT HOW TALL THE DOOR AND DRAWER FRONT COMBINATION ON EITHER SIDE WILL BE (INCLUDING THE SPACE BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE DRAWER FRONT), AND MAKE THE LAZY-SUSAN DOORS THAT HEIGHT. JUST MAKE SURE THE MEASUREMENT YOU SETTLE ON IS ENOUGH TO COVER THE HEIGHT OF THE OPENING.

NOTE: THESE HINGES ARE SOLD AS A FOUR (4) PIECE SET, ENOUGH TO CREATE ONE COMPLETE OPENING LAZY-SUSAN DOOR SETUP.

HINGE SIDE DOESN'T MATTER ON SYMMETRICAL DOORS, BECAUSE THEY CAN BE FLIPPED TO HINGE RIGHT OR LEFT.

REMEMBER!!, if you make the door height taller, you will have to move the hinge boring that much further in fron the top and bottom edge of the door. IF you want to make the door 29" high to cover a 26 3/4" high opening, for instance, you will NEED to move the hinge boring fron the standard 3"-3 1/8" to about 4 1/4", since you made the door TALLER by more than ONE INCH at the top and ONE INCH at the bottom.
